3rd. Annual Conejos Superfly
Well, it could wait no longer. The 3rd. Annual Conejos Superfly is on the way. April 25 thru 27. Similar format to last year except we are giving the weekend a purpose. I have been speaking with TU and other agencies about the need for some habitat work to be done on the Conejos. Well the Conejos Habitat Project was birthed and we at Conejos River Anglers will be spending alot of our time and focus on making the Conejos a better place for a trout to live.
A large part of your entry fee will go directly to the project. TU will also be contributing a large chunk of money towards the project. Basically what we will do each year is pick a one to two mile stretch of the Conejos (that is public) that needs additional homes for trout and improve that section. Each year you will be able to come and fish the “new” section and see it come to life. I know that this will sound expensive to many of you but it is the only way for us to get some real traction and dive into a project with some money to get it done. I have looked at the prices of similar events and we are a fraction of almost any other event out there. Please know that you are being involved in something special and unique the likes of which the Conejos has never seen. We would like to see about $40,000 raised this year thru the Superfly, donations, USFS, and TU.
A couple of other changes to level the playing field. No double professional teams allowed. Additionally any team with an industry professional or guide will not draw from the top 3 beats. We want to make this as fair as possible. Right now we are over 140% of average snowpack so it looks like the trout will have another great year to swim but it could impact the weekend depending on weather and releases. Do not register for this event if you are assuming all will be perfect. We schedule this event with alot of variables in mind and hope to get it right but there are no guarantees and it could be tough fishing. With the high snowpack we are only going to accept 40 teams. In April we will know if we are able to accept 20 additional teams. Only teams with paid completed entries will be put on the list. With your entry you will get the following. Access to some of the best and unfished ranches and properties of the Conejos. A choice of custom logod Simms shirts, Two catered parties, Movie night with beverages and live music, prizes from numerous manufacturers including custom Sage and Scott rods, swag, and the satisfaction that you donated $60 to $80 towards the Conejos Habitat Project. You will also have the choice of “off day” excursions including Pike, Carp, and Trout fishing.
